Snack Time!!

It’s 10am and now you’re hungry. It’s too early to eat lunch and your breakfast is long gone. Sounds like it’s time for a snack. 
Here are a few rules for snacking.
(taken from Today’s Dietitian)
Rule  # 1:
snacks should be between 100 and 200 calories
Rule #2:
snacks should be a combo of carbohydrates (fruits, vegetables or whole grains) AND protein or healthy fat
Rule #3:
Plan your snacks within your day. If you know you get hungry between breakfast and lunch plan ahead and bring something. 
Rule #4:
At your next meal, remember that you had a snack. That extra handful of pretzels, chips, whatever may not be necessary.

Snack ideas:

50 calories and under:
babybel light cheese
1/2 banana
3/4 cup raspberries
5 almonds
handful of carrots with 2T of salsa
handful of bell pepper strips with 1 T hummus
celery stalks with 1 laughing cow cheese wedge
100 calories:
skim milk or low fat string cheese
1 hard-boiled egg
1 mini-snack box of yogurt covered raisins
1/2 cup fat free plain greek yogurt with 2 tsp of strawberry jam
3 cups air-popped popcorn
1 laughing cow wedge and 3 triscuits
1/2 whole-wheat bagel and 1 oz smoked salmon
29 pistachios

200 calories:
1 container of Fage 0% fat yogurt with 1/2 banana
1/2 cup edamame
1/4 bear naked pecan apple flax trail mix
1 Quaker banana nut soft baked oatmeal cookie
1 kashi soft n chewy banana chocolate chip bar
1 oz prosciutto and 4 figs
